Goose Room is Staten Island's newest recording studio, featuring a 20'x20' tracking space, three iso booths, all-analog SSL console, and full microphone locker. We know that stepping into a studio often means stepping out of your comfort zone. That's why with a full kitchen, bedroom, and a private backyard, we've made Goose Room feel like a home away from home.
Goose Room's head engineer is Rain Johannes. Since he was 10 years old playing guitar and making beats on his dad's old laptop, Rain has had a passion for every part of the music making process. While earning a Music Technology degree at NYU, Rain established a home studio where he recorded, mixed, and mastered hundreds of original songs with dozens of artists across the tristate area. Now, with Rain at the helm, the spirit of that home studio lives on in Goose Room.
As an artist, your music means the world to you. You want it to sound exactly like it does in your head, and getting there takes more than just quality gear; You need a space that feels inviting, not stifling. A place where creativity is encouraged, less "crunch time" and more "time flies." Our goal is to make Goose Room that place for you.
"As an artist, producer, and engineer, Rain is equipped on all fronts to make your music sound incredible. On a technical level, his attention to detail allows his recordings to sound balanced and polished even before reaching the mixing phase. But as an artist and person, his keen and adaptable ear allows him to add to your music with your vision in mind. My single “Good For” would not be what it is without the iconic backwards guitar solo that Rain put together during our session. Rain’s studio environment is professional, comfortable, and relaxed, making me feel right at home during the nerve-wracking experience that is recording your own music!" - Victoria Park (of Pictoria Vark)
Rain is an incredibly thoughtful, professional and talented producer. I approached him with a lofty goal of recording a full-length, full-band album from a set of my guitar-vocal demos with a two weeks timeline. He met this extremely ambitious project with enthusiasm and diligence. He first worked with me to finalize the arrangements for each song and help map out the tracking schedule. We sat down and he approached each idea with care and artistry, providing as much guidance and creative input as I asked for, without ever over directing the tunes towards his own artistic inclinations as I’ve experienced with other producers. In the long days of recording that followed, Rain seamlessly juggled so many hats. Between the musicality he brought as a session player, the patience he brought as I meticulously tracked vocals, and the sense of humor he brought as spirits waned after long hours, Rain was invaluable along every step of the way. It was an absolute delight to work with Rain and I would do it again in a heartbeat. - Daphne Gampel (Daphne Gale)
"Working with Rain to record my debut EP was an absolute pleasure! From start to finish of the recording process, Rain was not only professional and accommodating but also extremely attentive and patient. The two full days spent recording were seamless and simple but most importantly, enjoyable. He made a seemingly daunting process super comfortable and brought a new element of care to the table. Rain was not only there to support as an engineer but also offered up his extensive musical background to help bring the project to full fruition. After the two-day recording session, Rain promptly edited the stems and sent them over to the mixing engineer in a timely and organized fashion. When it came time to master the project, he made sure that I was completely happy with the final product… which I was! I cannot wait to get back into the studio and record with Rain!" - Sage Leopold (of Panik Flower)
“Rain Johannes is not only an incredible musician, but a fantastic recording and mix engineer. He is professional, personable, and will offer you vegan chicken nuggets while simultaneously helping you create the single, EP, or album of your dreams. Would highly recommend him for any of your music needs.” - Olivia Krent
"Rain's professionalism and production knowledge made what can often be a stressful process into a smooth and comfortable journey. Not only was he patient every step of the way, but he was flexible and willing to tailor the recording process to adapt to the needs of my EP. I also appreciated that he wasn't afraid to participate with ideas and offer constructive criticism during the sessions and the mixing process. I will definitely be recording with Rain and utilizing his bass skills again in the future." - Jake Zall
"Choosing to record with Rain was a no-brainer. Having grown up playing music together, I knew that I would be working with someone who already knew my own musical capabilities and valued my work. On the other hand, Rain is also one of the best musical minds of anyone I know. He understands the importance of getting the best output from the artists he works with, collaborating with them to achieve the best record possible. Recording can be a quite a draining process, but Rain created a very relaxed and productive environment for each session. He takes the time to prepare for each session so that recording can begin as soon as one enters the studio space. Also, the process never felt rushed and we always managed to have extra time to experiment and try new things. If you want to work with someone who is organized, has an incredible music background, gives honest feedback and creates the perfect atmosphere for making records, then Rain is the person to call for any recording needs." - Jason Ross (of Moon Sand Land)
"Any great studio engineer needs two things: a strong ear and technical expertise. Rain has both in abundance. He deeply loves and appreciates a vast array of musical genres, from singer-songwriter to extreme metal and everything in-between. This combined with his elite professional training makes for excellent mixing and mastering regardless of idiom—in my case, experimental jazz. And don't let his laid-back demeanor fool you; Rain is deadly serious about perfecting his craft. He handled my work excellently and I would recommend his services to anyone." - David Acevedo
